Hotels in Lima

Hotels in Lima

Located in the northwest part of Ohio, Lima is the county seat of Allen County, Ohio. After being founded in 1831, it was the home of the largest oil field among the states over the last decade of the 19th century. Hotels in Lima

Hotels in Lima

Located in the northwest part of Ohio, Lima is the county seat of Allen County, Ohio. After being founded in 1831, it was the home of the largest oil field among the states over the last decade of the 19th century. Two major criminal gangs of the Great Depression made appearances in the town. John Dillinger was broken out of the County Jail by his gang, and the Brady Gang robbed a jewelry store. Hammers for Metal Jewelry Making

Hammers for Metal Jewelry Making

It hammer time! I had to say that, sorry. Seriously, though, of all the tools you have in your tool box or at your work bench, hammers can be a metal worker best friend, and they are really essential to the processes of fabricating metal. Both jewelry makers who work with wire and metalsmiths who work with materials such as metal plating use hammers to harden metals, straighten them, or even texture them sometimes. So they are really tools that are considered multi taskers.

While there are a surprising variety of hammers available to jewelers, ranging from size and materials they are made of, I going to cover two of the have hammers in this article. Most jewelry makers will find over time and practice that they may gravitate to other types of hammers, but this is an individual decision based on preference and the type of jewelry you make. Therefore, while I suggest you have a the two hammers I plan to cover here in your tool box a rawhide hammer and a ballpein hammer I also suggest you experiment with other hammers to see how they fit your metal jewelry making needs.

Getting Down to the Nitty Gritty

Getting Down to the Nitty Gritty

Myth of the Exploding Skull

A common misconception is that the head of a burned body will explode if there is no wound or hole in it, much like a microwaved potato with no puncture in the skin. But forensics researcher Elayne Pope quickly deflated this urban legend when she conducted tests on 40 human cadavers. The myth probably arose when firefighters found the fragmented skulls of burn victims, not realizing that the skulls, which have a thin covering of tissue and quickly become brittle from heat, were easily broken by falling debris or water from pumps.

The term ashes is a bit misleading, since what families receive after a cremation isnt a soft powder, but instead a grayish, coarse material, like fine gravel, made from the ground up remains of bones.

In modern crematories, the body is stored in a cool, temperature controlled room until its approved for cremation. A coroner or medical examiner is often required to sign off to make sure no medical investigations or examinations need to be done since, unlike after a burial, the body cant be exhumed once its cremated. The body is prepared by removing pacemakers, which can explode in the heat, prostheses and silicone implants. Radioactive cancer seeds injectable or implantable radioactive isotopes used to treat several types of cancer are also on the removal list. The body is then put into a container or casket made out of flammable materials such as plywood, pine or cardboard. In some countries, workers remove other external items such as jewelry or glasses, while other countries prohibit workers from doing so.

When the incinerator is preheated to about 1,100 degrees Fahrenheit 593 degrees Celsius, the mechanized doors are opened and the container slips quickly from a rack of rolling metal pins into the primary cremating chamber, also referred to as a retort.

Sometimes family members can watch the cremation from a window, or, in cases such as Hindu cremations, a family member can start the fire by pressing a button.

Once the door is sealed, the body is subjected to a jet enginelike column of flame, aimed at the torso. The heat ignites the container and dries the body, which is composed of 75 percent water. As the soft tissues begin to tighten, burn and vaporize from the heat, the skin becomes waxy, discolors, blisters and splits. The muscle begins to char, flexing and extending limbs as it tightens. The bones, which are the last to go, become calcified as they are exposed to the heat and begin to flake or crumble source: Pope.

An average human body takes from two to three hours to burn completely and will produce an average of 3 to 9 pounds 1.4 to 4.1 kilograms of ash. The amount of ash depends usually on the bone structure of the person and not so much their weight source: Ellenberg. A newborn, which has mostly cartilage and very little set bone, might not even leave any remains after cremation.

Do Celebrities Own their Red Carpet Jewelry

Do Celebrities Own their Red Carpet Jewelry

Some of us watch the Oscar presentations and other awards shows just to see the jewelry and fashions worn by the celebrities who attend. And of course the celebs never wear the same items twice. Have you ever wondered how they shop for the fashions and jewelry they wear to awards ceremonies?

They dont have to.

Many celebrities could afford to buy the jewelry and fashions they wear to the Oscars and other awards ceremonies, but they dont have to. Jewelry designers and dealers loan the pieces in order to gain visibility for their companies, and so do fashion designers. They allow celebrities or their stylists to choose what theyd like to wear from the inventory the designer wants to promote. Many of the designers work with multiple celebrities, so they must be careful not to duplicate an item.

Many celebrities do wear their own jewelry, rather than borrow, but if you see someone wearing what appears to be hundreds of carats of diamonds to the Academy Awards, its more than likely the pieces are on loan.

The best score for a company is having their designs on an award winner. Think about it, if a current leading lady wins an Oscar shes front and center in a new gown. The hand that holds up Oscar might have a gorgeous ring on it. Close ups would show off a necklace or earrings. Any jewelry shes wearing will get attention.

Photos taken at the ceremonies and at parties afterwards will circulate for years and not just photos of the winners, but of all of the popular celebrities who attend. Wouldnt you want your designs in that position?

Some companies have occasionally had problems getting their jewelry back, so now most of them require a signature that verifies the borrower knows the item is on loan, and not a gift.

One person who loans jewels for awards shows is Michael Katz, a Beverly Hills jewelry designer and dealer. He has the reputation of being able to intuitively match people with jewels.

Harry Winston is a company thats been associated with celebrities since its beginnings, so youll always see their pieces on those who are Oscar bound. Another is New Yorker Fred Leighton, whose rings you see on the right hands of the Sex In the City ladies. Other famous and less well known designers are represented, too. Neil Lane is another jeweler whose designs are on most red carpets.

If a celebrity trend looks hot enough, costume jewelry companies will produce look alike versions of many pieces. Remember the pink Ben and Jen diamond ring many spam emails did you get from companies trying to sell knock offs of that?

Its always interesting to see which designs are the most popular at the Oscars will everyone wear similar pieces or will there be a huge variation in style? Ill definitely tune in to find out.

Controlling Premature Ejaculation

Controlling Premature Ejaculation

One of the greatest fears among male sexual problems today is premature ejaculation, or PE. The far reaching effects of PE can have devastating consequences when it comes to male female sexual relationships. Sex therapists and doctors have different definitions of what PE really involves, but they all agree that it happens in men in varying degrees, and in many men on a constant basis at some point in their lives. Whatever the case, it can have severe and damaging effects on a relationship. So there is a great need for exploration and study in this area. Premature ejaculation simply means that a man s ejaculation happens too early. That is, before the sexual act is over. Sometimes it happens before the actual penetration, and sometimes shortly after the sexual act begins. The feeling among most men is that they have no control over when it will come. And that s especially true among younger males who have had very few sexual experiences. Older men generally have more control over their ejaculations, but during certain periods in their lives, especially when they encounter problems of every kind, they can also experience premature ejaculations. Premature ejaculation, for the most part, can be treated. But many men and women don t know this, and they are too shy to talk about it publicly or with their doctor for fear of being mocked or ridiculed. So the first step in getting treatment for premature ejaculation is to admit that you have a problem. And the next thing you should do is to get medical help in identifying the source of the problem. Only then can the best treatment be recommended. Many herbal based products are beginning to gain popularity as people start realizing and understanding the treatments available and the benefits that can be derived from all natural products. Medical experts who have previously spoken against natural products are now beginning to understand the great benefits of these natural herbs. There are many herb based products on the market today. And all of them are competing for a greatly untapped market. One of these products are VigRX Plus male sexual enhancement pills. VigRX Plus contains extracts of numerous herbal plants. It is a sex enhancement pill that consists of all natural ingredients that are known to sexually invigorate males and eliminate the problem of premature ejaculation. Some ingredients included in every bottle of VigRX Plus include Cuscuta seed extracts and Ginkgo Biloba. These ingredients have been known to greatly increase sexual potency. Cuscuta seed is very effective in curing premature ejaculation and Ginkgo Biloba is known to increase the blood flow to the penile region, which greatly enhances and improves a man s erection. VigRX Plus is only one of many all natural sex enhancement pills currently competing for the attention of men who are dealing with the problem of premature ejaculation.

Childrens Play Jewelry May Contain Dangerous Levels of Cadmium

Childrens Play Jewelry May Contain Dangerous Levels of Cadmium

Recently, McDonalds ordered a recall of Shrek glasses which contained a small amount of the metal cadmium, which has been used in pigments and jewelry in the past. The reason this was done was that Cadmium is an extremely toxic substance, and for this reason has been slowly phased out of products in the United States. The Occupational Safety Health Administration, in the Department of Labor, has stated that even low amounts of cadmium are very toxic. Welders who have unknowingly began welding onto a surface containing cadmium have died, making cadmium a real workplace danger, especially when its presence is not known. Some batteries contain cadmium, and cadmium has been used in industrial paint, making the removal of such paint potentially dangerous for the worker. Cadmium is a known human carcinogen, meaning that exposure to cadmium can lead to the development of cancer in the exposed individual. Therefore, it is not surprising that McDonalds went ahead with the recall. Recently, the governor of Connecticut, M. Jodi Rell, signed legislation restricting the level of cadmium in childrens jewelry. However, this law wont take effect until 2014, and Connecticut is one of the first states to pass a law on cadmium content. Many parents are outraged that cadmium is present in any quantities in childrens jewelry. This is especially concerning as children are likely more sensitive to the poisonous effects of jewelry, and young toddlers may be prone to putting the jewelry in their mouths, thus increasing significant the level of exposure.

Walmart was selling a line of Miley Cyrus jewelry that it knew contained cadmium for months until they were pulled. The cadmium was in high levels in charm bracelets and necklaces. In addition, Princess and the Frog pendants were removed when they were found to have high levels of cadmium. While cadmium was heavily used in the middle of the 20th Century, since the toxic effects have been known developed countries have been decreasing their use of the metal. Ironically, as Chinese manufacturers have been decreasing the amount of lead in childrens toys made in China, they have been replacing lead with cadmium, which is considered to be just as, and probably more toxic than lead. Chronic exposure to cadmium can negatively effect brain development in children. Manufacturers in China say that cadmium has been used for a long time there, apparently without the knowledge that the metal is very toxic and causes cancer.

Though the fact that cadmium prices have fallen may have lead some Chinese manufacturers to turn a blind eye to the potentially devastating toxic effects. The level of cadmium in some of the childrens jewelry can be very high, almost a stunning 85% in some cases. And ingested jewelry can produce approximately 350 times the safe level of cadmium exposure for one year, meaning that any ingested jewelry containing cadmium may likely cause dangerous health effects in children. Most experts agree that children shouldnt be exposed to anything with any level of cadmium in it. has been caught, there may be many items of childrens jewelry which contain cadmium which have not been recalled. federal agencies. The Obama administration should step up and warn the public about this dangerous health threat. As the true scope of the threat is unknown, parents of young children should avoid buying them jewelry and should perhaps discard, or store out of the reach of children, any play jewelry that they have.

Part time wordsmith, articles and novels.
